This past weekend my husband and I went away for a weekend retreat at Winshape. If you haven’t ever been, I highly recommend it. The retreat we did included speaking sessions and the ropes course. Good times!
When we arrived, we spent some time praying that God would speak to us in a new way. And he sure did. We learned that we are not supposed to just accept that life is crazy in this season of life. God longs for us to enjoy every season of our lives here on earth. And we are to use this time to praise Him. We were not doing that.
The verse he continued to pound into us was Romans 12:2. We found the Message version and thought it was a great description.
“So here’s what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life—your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life—and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God. You’ll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.” Romans 12:1-2 MSG
Married couples, I cannot stress the importance of having this time away. We were so blessed by the no-tech zone at Winshape. No tv. No internet. Just each other. We have decided to start going to Winshape yearly as our marriage retreat. No matter where you go – it is just good for you as a married couple to get away from “real life” and spend time with your spouse.
Hope you have a great week!
“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.” Romans 12: 2 NIV
